How Paint-on-Paper Watercolor Works
Mess-free by design
Most "mess-free" kits either need special paper and refills, or use paint-with-water that fades away. COI Play is different: real, non-toxic watercolor is printed as solid paint blocks right on the page. Add a brush and a little water and you're painting — and your finished art stays. It's also a sustainably designed, low-waste kit, printed on FSC-certified paper.
Painting in 5 steps
- Open your kit and flip to the printed paint blocks — they're right on the page, no tubes or pots.
- Dip your brush in a little water.
- Touch the brush to a paint block to lift the color.
- Paint your bookmark or page.
- Let it dry — the color is permanent, so you keep the art.
Common questions
Is it really no-mess?
It's low-mess by design — no tubes to squeeze, no pots to spill, no palette to set up. You do use a brush and a little water, so it's not zero-water, just far less mess than traditional paint trays.
Do I need tubes, pots, or a water cup?
No tubes or pots — the paints are on the page. You just need a brush and a little water.
Where are the paints? I don't see them.
They're printed as solid watercolor blocks on the page (often on the back of the booklet). That's the all-in-one design — flip to the paint blocks, add a little water with your brush, and the color lifts right off.
Does the color fade or wash away like paint-with-water?
No. Unlike water-reveal pads, COI uses real watercolor pigment, so your finished piece is a permanent keepsake. See how COI compares →
Are the materials safe and eco-friendly?
Yes — non-toxic, safe-ingredient watercolor on FSC-certified paper, sustainably designed without waste. More on designing without waste →
What ages is it for?
